Responsive Classroom

What is Responsive Classroom:

It’s an evidence-based education approach that creates a safe, challenging, and joyful classroom and school wide climate for all children. Teachers, thinking carefully about everything from classroom setup to how they speak to their students, build excitement about learning. Studies over the past thirty years have shown students in Responsive Classrooms to have higher scores on math & reading tests, demonstrate better social skills, and show increased positive feelings about school, teachers, and peers.

SFX Responsive Classroom Mission Statement:

At St. Francis Xavier School, we are builders of the future. Students are valued for their individuality and diverse capabilities as they are taught to contribute to society with compassion, courage, knowledge and vision. The Responsive Classroom approach gives teachers, staff, and students the tools needed to create and maintain a positive community that is rich in engaging academics, effective management, and developmentally appropriate teaching.

This is really an amazing approach! Not only is it effective in the classroom, but also spills over into life outside the classroom. The focus on positivity, embracing individuality, strengthening academic and social skills wholly embraces the SFX mission to educate mind, body, and spirit.
